2006 was the final year that the e46 m3 was made with no material changes introduced. Most of the cars were made up to May of this year and it was a strong sales year for BMW according to reliable sources. For a performance car produced close to a decade, this one stood up very well to daily driving and remains a ‘top ten’ must have used car.

This year saw a competition package make its way to North America which included and tighter steering ration and bigger wheels. BMW also discontinued some of their god-awful paint color options like green and yellow. This year also saw some other interior option changes, like a few leather surface options that were discontinued.

This model year saw some great color changes come out, including Laguna Seca. There were also a few mechanical updates which included a fix to the understeer and some further improvements to suspension – although these were very minor and usually imperceptible to people who never put their M3 on the track.

This year saw some interesting action with the introduction of the M3 CSL and some LED tail lights. In addition, this year was the first to get the integrated bluetooth, which was a welcome option for all the high tech – wirelessly enabled e46 M3 owners armed with their wireless devices. This is another totally solid year for the m3. Of particular note is the introduction of the interior trim option which was brushed aluminum and was very popular with many owners. Bigger wheels of the 19″ variety were also available as an OEM option and my opted for this as it made the car look even more menacing and handle slightly better.

In 2001 BMW improved the nav system, which included a bigger screen and more usability to the way the software worked. Interior changes included the deletion of a high gloss leather option, which very few ordered anyway.
