Difference between the BMW M3 and he BMW 323is?
hey I saw a picture of a 1999 BMW 323is and a picture of a BMW M3 and I was wondering besides the obviouse of names and maybe engines whats the real difference between them? the more detailed the better.
Because from the pictures they look like they have the same body style and such.

Most answers in here are entirely incorrect.
The 323is has a 2.5l Inline 6 M52B25 engine, which produces 168hp. The power restrictions, are mostly due to its single pipe exhaust, while most BMWs have dual pipes from the headers back. The 323is is still sport oriented, but is going to have softer suspension, smaller brakes, and will have LESS WEIGHT than the M3.
The ‘99 E36 M3 has a 240hp 3.2l Inline 6 S52b32 engine. The m3 has firmer sport/track oriented suspension, which includes different bushings, control arms, sway bars, etc. The car will also have "Vader" sport seats, black headliner, M-tech body kit, larger brakes, Limited slip differential, and larger staggered wheels. The car also has additional welding to make the chassis stiffer.
BMW 323 is the standard 3 series car with tons of weight, on the other hand M3 is the sport version of the 3 series family. The difference is M3 comes with a more powerful engine and comparatively less in weight. This doesn’t mean M3 is a good controllable car. M3 comes with a sport suspension, traction control, fiber doors and ect: There are even small sport body styling as well. I hope this will be enough.
there are many, many differences! first of all the engine…the 323 is a 2.3l 6cylinder and is around 150bhp whereas the M3 is a 3.2l 6cylinder motorsport engine producing 344bhp. a car with 3 times the power of the 323 obviously needs the handling to go with it, so upgraded suspension and brakes etc are a vital component of the M3, The M3 also has Motorsport bumpers, grills on the side of the car, and a quad exhaust system. the M3 has full leather interior, Motorsport wheels, everything about the M3 is upgaded, including the price tag! also have a look at the very rare upgraded M3…the M3 CSL and the M3 GTI. knormskie
M cars usualy have a more performance oriented suspension/steering and engine setup, bodys and chassis are the same but different control arms struts engine are tuned differently exhaust is different. 99 for some reason i wanna think is a e36 chassis? am i correct you’ll see on the hood shock

The very fact the the M3 comes from the M Factory and the 323is does not. Plus, the M3 is much stronger than the 323is.
